Updates for 814, 818 and 822 W. 32nd Avenue – SIPs Houses

“Pouring concrete for all three slabs!  Four concrete trucks and the pump truck were busy at the site this morning!”

Our contractor, Cecil Hudson of HSG Solutions Group, reviews the installed cables at 814 W. 32nd Avenue with some of the Tech-con Systems team members who are doing the cabling work.  The post-tension slabs will provide us with a stronger slab that will have less shrinkage and stress cracking.

The slab footprint for 818 W. 32nd Avenue house is a little larger to accommodate the three bedroom footprint.

This close up picture of the 822 W. 32nd Avenue shows the thick cables which are used to strengthen the post-tension slabs.

The foundation at 822 W. 32nd Avenue just needs City approval of the foundation inspection, then concrete!

March 17, 2025: 1102 and 1104 W. 33rd Avenue at N. Pierce Street are nearly ready to start forming up the slab foundations!  Corey is working his backhoe and dozer at 1104 W. 33rd Avenue in the first picture.  In the 2nd picture, the equipment stands at the ready on 1102 W. 33rd Avenue on the corner.  These two houses will each be two bedroom one bathroom, conventional wood frame houses.  They will be completed by the end of July!

First SIPs houses in west St. Tammany Parish now under way at 814, 818 and 822 W. 32nd Avenue.

The Structural Insulated Panels construction methodology emerged from the industrial real estate sector where SIPs buildings were used for cold storage buildings.  The SIPs houses will have 6” thick wall panels, 8” thick ceiling panels and they are built with metal studs for interior walls, so there is no wood used.  They will offer homeowners much lower electric bills and insurance costs since they have a very high wind rating and they are low-risk for fire with no wood used.  The panels have a metal sheathing on each side with a baked on enamel finish, so there is no interior or exterior painting of the perimeter walls and ceiling.

The skeletal frame can be erected on a cured slab very quickly, so they can be fully built much faster than conventional wood framed houses.  We will build the two bedroom house at 822 W. 32nd Avenue first to help us learn the new construction process, then we will build a three bedroom house next to it, along with a four bedroom house on the third site.

You can see from the photos that the three sites have been cleared, the red clay bases have been installed and the slab foundations are being formed.  The slab foundations for all three will be poured together to achieve some cost efficiencies.  Check back with our site often for updates.
